Latics' Boundary Park stadium will be packed on Sunday, May 7
On Sunday, May 7, Latics' Boundary Park stadium will host a special charity match between footballing legends and celebrities to remember the victims of the Manchester Arena attack.
All the money raised from the ‘Manchester Remembers’ game will go to support five charities set up in the aftermath of the 2017 attack, in which Royton mums Lisa Lees and Alison Howe were tragically killed.
Former Bolton manager Sam Allardyce will take charge of the former players, while Peter Reid will manage the celebrities.
Former Latics midfielder Richie Wellens will feature for the former players, along with Dean Holden, Southampton legend Matt Le Tissier, Trevor Sinclair and Colin Hendry.
The celebrities’ team will feature Callum Best, Coronation Street actor Ryan Thomas, Jay Kontzie and Joe-Warren Plant from Emmerdale, MasterChef winner Simon Wood and Love Island’s Dom Lever.
The afternoon will begin with live music from a number of bands on the pitch before the match at 3pm.
Adult tickets will be priced at £10 and concessionary tickets at £5.
All the money raised will be donated to the following charities, some of which were set up by the families who lost loved ones in the arena attack in 2017:
Chloe and Liam Together Forever Trust, Liv’s Trust, The Megan Hurley Foundation, The Remembering Nell Foundation and Eilidh's Trust
The event has been organised by fire-fighter Aaron Lee and local business owner Paul Corrigan.
Aaron was one of the first responders on the scene at the Manchester Arena in 2017.
Since then, he has continued to have a close relationship with the victims' families and has taken part in several activities to raise funds for the charities.
He said: “Following the huge success of last year’s event we would like to extend our heartfelt gratitude to all that came along and supported the event.
"The incredible amount raised for charity will go great lengths to support others achieve their dreams as a legacy born from such a tragedy.
“The fantastic support from all the players, managers and our sponsors enables Manchester Remembers to continue to be a voice for those affected by the events that occurred on May 22, 2017, in Manchester.”
Hospitality tickets are available for £70 and include a three-course meal as well as drinks before and after the game, while executive boxes for up to ten guests are also available.
Mascot packages are also now on sale.
