Oldham Photographic Society has come fifth in a prestigious international competition.
The group claimed the accolade in the World Cup for Clubs competition, organised by the Fédération Internationale de l’Art Photographique, which translates to the International Federation of Photographic Art.
Entry to the World Cup requires a set of 20 images from a minimum of 10 photographers, with not more than two images per photographer.
The Oldham Society is one of the oldest continuously meeting photographic societies in Britain and has never changed its name since it was founded at the Hare and Hounds Pub in Yorkshire Street in May, 1867.
It was one of the first clubs to introduce digital photography to members in the 1990s.
And today almost all members are amateurs, with interests including natural history, landscape, people pictures and digital montage.
They had 17 of 20 images accepted for exhibition and an Honorable Mention for the Society.
FIAP was conceived in 1946 in the aftermath of the Second World War to bring together people from all over the world in friendship and to further the art of photography.
The first countries to join were Belgium, the Netherlands, Italy, Portugal and Switzerland, with membership now spanning 91 countries.
Oldham Photographic Society meet at North Chadderton Conservative Club on Thursday evenings.
