Wet and windy theme set to continue into, and beyond, the weekend

Date published: 05 January 2023

Oldhamers are in for another wet, windy and generally miserable weekend, weather-wise.

The new year has started off how 2022 ended - mild, wet and occasionally windy.

The rain has been relentless and, according to Oldham weather expert Jon Baylis, yesterday (Wednesday) was day 20 in a row of measurable rainfall, and that number will continue to rise.

Today (Thursday) brought a bright start, but cloudier conditions will bubble up as the day progresses, with a few showers.

Rain is due overnight.

It will remain breezy and mild, with a maximum temperature of 12°C.

Tomorrow, after overnight rain, it will turn drier with a few bright spells, so a better day.

It will be a little cooler, still breezy, and cloudier towards the evening. Max 9°C

The weekend will see little change, while looking further ahead, the jet stream will remain active and control our weather driving areas of low pressure across the Atlantic to our shores.

So it will be windy at times with spells of rain or showers and mild, with the odd cooler slot in between weather systems.

There are hints of something more settled and cooler after that, but certainly there's no sign of any wintry conditions.
