There's something for everyone in the new live@thelibrary line-up

Are you looking for some great entertainment to keep you going over Winter and into Spring?

Oldham Council’s new live@thelibrary season has a superb selection of shows and events.

You can discover a world of comedy, drama, new writing, family theatre and storytelling – and it’s all on your doorstep.

This season is full of fun for all ages, from circus skills with “Earnie’s Journey” to an intriguing murder mystery with “Garry Jotter and the Magical Murder” (see image below).

You can also welcome Dr Tony Redmond, who will be talking about his book, Frontline: Saving Lives in War, Disaster and Disease

From his early days growing up in Failsworth, Dr Redmond’s long and illustrious career as an A&E doctor has seen him on the frontline of countless international emergencies.

Hear how life-or-death choices are made in the heat of the moment.

For those of you looking for something more light-hearted, Forget About The Dog Theatre presents the sci-fi themed Happy Place.

Follow four individuals on an extraordinary journey in this comedic and critically-acclaimed production.

On International Women’s Day (March 8) local author Karol Darnell will be talking about her new book, Don’t Miss The Last Train Home, which is based in Failsworth in the early 1900s.

The Small Cinema has some silver screen favourites lined up for the little ones.

They include Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone, Super Pets and Peter Rabbit 2.

To celebrate LGBTQ+ History Month, the council has also teamed up with Oldham Pride Committee for a special screening of the comedy Kinky Boots, which follows the tale of a failing footwear factory.

Meanwhile, the ever popular – and free – Illuminate festival also returns for its sixth year on Saturday, February 18 and will light up the town centre.

Councillor Elaine Taylor, Deputy Leader of Oldham Council and Cabinet Member for Culture and Leisure, said: “The winter months are always dark and cold so we’ve put together a fun, interesting and informative programme of events, to help keep residents entertained.

“There is a little bit of something for all ages.

“I’d urge people to check the listings, book their places and get involved.”

The events run from this month until April.

Children under 12 months are free.

All accompanying adults must buy a ticket to attend children’s performances.
