A 200-strong choir of angels, lovingly knitted and crocheted by community champions, have begun appearing in a Saddleworth village.

Aimed at spreading happiness throughout Delph, a dedicated team make the angels throughout the year ready to fly in December.

They are distributed by Delph Chief Elf Organiser Sue Lund, Delph Elf Angels - Julie Murgatroyd, Ellen Weedon, Hannah Burnley, Kath Butterworth, and four-legged friends Luther, Chief Elf, Smudgieman and Bertha.

Kath Butterworth explained: “A special message on the label is a lovely way of wishing everyone a peaceful Christmas and asking the finder to take the Angel home.

“Some Angels are shy and hide, some like playing, some like shopping... Who knows where they will appear this year in Delph?

“Enjoy finding them and taking them home.

"We look forward to seeing photographs of them settled in their new homes.”

The Angels can be found on dry stone walls, postboxes, windowsills, railings, playgrounds - they love to swing and slide and have even been found in pub and shop doorways.
