Four more in court for fly-tipping offences

Oldham Council has taken more action against residents who dump their household waste in the town.

Since starting the Don’t Trash Oldham campaign in September last year, Council officers have given out more than 450 fines.

Another 54 people have also been successfully prosecuted in court.

The latest to find themselves in the dock were:

Waste found on Villa Road, Hathershaw (pictured below) was linked to nearby resident Coco Mwenzo.

She was issued with a fine but taken to court when she didn’t pay.

She pleaded guilty to a duty of care offence – not getting rid of her waste properly – and was given a six month conditional discharge, ordered to pay costs of £100 and a £21 victim surcharge.

Feraru Anca, of Belgrave Road was issued with a fine after her waste was found at the side of Thatcher Street.

The 33-year-old did not pay the fine and in court pleaded guilty to a duty of care offence, and was fined £109, with £150 costs, plus a £34 victim surcharge.

Thirty-seven-year-old  Vasile Ion Romanescu, of Brierley Street Hathershaw, pleaded guilty in court to a Duty of Care Offence after a bag of his rubbish was found close to his home.

He was fined £106, told to pay £200 costs with a £34 victim surcharge.

Waste found in an alleyway off County Street was traced to Danielle Siddall.

The 33-year-old, who lived across the road from where the rubbish was found, didn’t appear in court but was found guilty of a Duty of Care offence.

She was fined £660, with £725 costs and a victim surcharge of £66.

Councillor Hannah Roberts, Cabinet Member for Neighbourhoods, said: “The vast majority of our residents clean up after themselves and dispose of their waste properly.

“Unfortunately, a small minority think it’s ok to just dump their waste on the street.

"This not only creates a health hazard but is an eyesore and brings our communities down.

"As these prosecutions show we are determined to stop that from happening.

“With Christmas just a few days away it’s understandable households will have more waste and recycling.

"If you can’t fit it all in your bin, please take it to the tip if you can.”

The court cases all took place at Tameside Magistrates.
