Saddleworth Round Table's new gin, which they hope will raise money for good causes.
A dedicated team of committed community champions are aiming that their latest initiative will be a real tonic for their fundraising activities.
Saddleworth Round Table, with the help of Holmfirth’s Calentillo Spirits, have created a gin which will contribute to raising additional funds for community and local good causes.
After months of research and development, the gin - RT 558 - creates the special essence of the area and also of Saddleworth Round Table’s beliefs.
Their spokesman: “We started by making sure the gin had a solid basis - distilled in an Alembic copper still with juniper berries, combined with coriander seed and Angelica Root.
“The root has a hint of earthiness which is a nod to the local countryside. Next we smoothen the edge of the gin with some rolled oats and we lengthen the flavour depth with orris root,
“We’ve created a dry gin which means there’s nothing added - apart from local purified water.
“After the distillation process we decided to call it a Saddleworth Dry Gin. After all, it’s never been anywhere close to London but essentially adheres to all the strict London dry gin rules.
“Saddleworth is known for it’s open green countryside,” explained the spokesman.
“To capture the locality we focussed our supporting botanicals on things green - limes, kaffir lime leavers, rosemary and thyme are a few examples.
“Finally, the gin is rounded off with a touch of liquorice root to lengthen the flavour and add a little sweetness. It seemed appropriate given the longstanding good deeds Round Table provides in the community.”
