Sixth Form College students celebrate a special year of success

Date published: 20 December 2022

Oldham Sixth Form College has hosted its Celebration Evening for the first time in three years due to the pandemic.

Former students and their guests enjoyed an informal reunion with staff, before prize-winners attended an enjoyable ceremony, where they were presented with awards for their achievements.

The guest speaker for the evening was former OSFC student, Dr Charlotte Coupe, who is now a junior doctor, having studied Medicine at The University of Leeds.

Charlotte was delighted to have been asked to return as guest speaker for the evening.

"It was an honour to be invited to speak at the reinstated celebration evening - acknowledging the fantastic achievements of some very talented young people," she said.

A total of 107 subject and progress prizes were awarded, in addition to 161 prizes for Outstanding Achievement.

A further seven special prizes were awarded, including the Governors’ Prize won this year by Sophie Porter.

Sophie was a worthy winner of this prize and a dedicated student during her time at OSFC, achieving phenomenal grades (A*A*A) whilst thoroughly involving herself in extracurricular activities to broaden her experiences, including the roles of Vice President of the Student Executive and Student Governor.

She is now studying Law at Gonville and Caius College, at the University of Cambridge.

Students were able to catch up with their former classmates and tutors, take part in photo opportunities, sing songs and enjoy delicious food and drink.

Any remaining food was made sure not to go to waste, as the Sixth Form donated the evening’s leftovers to local charities within the area.

Suzannah Reeves, Associate Principal, said: “I am so pleased that we have been able to celebrate the achievements of our Class of 2022.

"Once again we were able to host an amazing evening of prize giving, catching up and sharing.

"It is always a pleasure to hear about our returning cohort’s successes, to catch up and see how their lives have flourished and progressed since leaving our Sixth Form.

"It is what we are here for and we are so proud to be actively transforming lives in the community.

"Great evenings such as this would not be possible without all the input from our staff and students alike - it is truly a celebration for everybody."
