Man facing rape charge

A man from Heywood has been charged with the rape of a woman in Rochdale after members of the public identified him on circulated CCTV images.

Francis Henshaw (aged 41), of Bury New Road, was arrested on Friday and charged on Saturday (December 17).

He was also charged with a sexual assault of a 17-year-old girl that occurred in September.

He has been remanded in custody and was due to appear at Salford Magistrates Court today (Monday).

DS Steven Gilliland, of Rochdale CID, said: “I would like to thank the members of the public who identified the man in the photograph that we issued to the media.

“Because of this he has been arrested and charged and will now go before the courts.”
