Bin crew spreads a little bit of Christmas cheer

Date published: 14 December 2022

One of Oldham Council's waste and recycling teams have been spreading a little Christmas cheer at a local nursery.

Recently the Council received a letter from a youngster at Daisy Chains Pre School.

Little three-year-old Parker drew a picture of staff emptying the bins at the site.

Staff at Daisy Chains said it’s one of the highlights of his day when the bin crew arrives.

To thank him for his kind gesture, a crew paid a surprise visit to the Bardsley centre.

As part of the pre-Christmas treat, Parker and his mates got a chance to sit in the bin lorry’s cab.

Councillor Hannah Roberts, Cabinet Member for Neighbourhoods, said: “I’m delighted our team made Parker’s day.

“His drawing was such a nice gesture that we wanted to give him and his friends with a little treat to say thank you.

“Our waste and recycling crews do a fantastic job every day and it’s nice to see whenever their hard work is noticed.”

Just a reminder, if your waste and recycling bins are due to be emptied on Boxing Day (Monday, December 26) then there is a change to your collection this year.

Instead, you need to put them out on Christmas Eve (Saturday, December 24) - except for green bins and food caddies which will be collected on Monday, January 2.

Collections on January 2 will take place as normal.
