Rescue heroes test safety procedures

This was an important exercise to ensure the team are ready to respond if there is a real life incident
Local residents out and about in the vicinity of the River Tame between Uppermill and Greenfield last Sunday may have noticed some of Oldham Mountain Rescue Team members scouring the riverbanks.
Fortunately it was an exercise, but an important one to ensure the team are ready to respond if there is a real life incident in one of our local waterways, or during a flood event.
After reports of two males entering the water at Brownhill visitors centre (which for the purposes of the exercise was a spate), search areas were assigned and sections were deployed.
After a short time, the first casualty was located by a bankside section, who then called in the specialist water section to assist with the extraction by raft.
The male was then treated on the bankside by one of the rescue team's Casualty Carers.
Just as this casualty was being made safe, the second male was located next to the weir at Churchill playing fields.
This time, the bankside section was able to practice some throwline launching before getting the casualty to safety on the river bank.
