Amazing Grace celebrates her 100th birthday in style

Date published: 01 December 2022

A lady affectionately known as 'our Park House Queen' celebrated her 100th birthday with family and friends - and a card from King Charles III - last week.

Grace Stansfield is currently a hugely popular resident at the Park House residential care home on Queens Road in Oldham.

Born on November 26, 1922, Grace was a very hard worker, taking up a role from the age of 14 at the Falcon as a velvet threader.

Grace also ran a Sunday school where she would do the cradle roll with the children, which entailed rocking a dolly in a cradle whilst singing hymns to send the baby to sleep.

Grace was married to James Stansfield, who she loved dearly, until he died in 1991.

A very kind, loving mum to Sheila, Audrey and Owen, she would give her last penny to anyone.

Grace has also has grandchildren - Andrew, Phillip, Debra, Amanda, Gareth, Clare and Callum, and six great-grandchildren - Nancy, Matilda, Mirabel, Aaron, Francis and Charlie.

Grace is still very hard working and loves to help out around the house with the cleaning and washing up.

She says her prayers every night before bed and always has a smile or cheeky joke to offer to cheer everybody up!

Park House Activity Co-Ordinator Jodie Mills said: "Grace could brighten anyone up on a dull day - she is our Parkhouse Queen!"
