It’s easy to see why women from across Oldham want to be involved with the TG group as it offers them so much
In 1962 a group of women from Royton and its surrounding areas decided to form a local branch of the Townswomen’s Guild - an organisation that stemmed from the suffrage movement and provided women with a space to learn, speak their minds, make friends and most importantly have fun.
The Townswomen’s Guild is an empowering organisation with branches up and down the country still in existence. One being Royton TG which has seen a growing membership over the past few years and remains an asset to the local community.
It’s easy to see why women from across Oldham want to be involved with the group as it offers them so much.
With regular speakers, outings, bowling club, book club, knit and natter group and much more, being a member is extremely fulfilling.
Barbara Micklethwaite, Chairman of Royton Townswomen’s Guild, said “I am thrilled to be celebrating our 60th anniversary amongst so many friends, friends of whom I have had the pleasure of meeting thanks to this wonderful organisation.
“We are extremely fortunate to have a strong membership and I hope this continues for many years to come.
“I would urge anyone looking for fun and friendship to join us.
"There’s so much you can get involved with and the support is second to none.
“We are one big TG family and it has enriched my life in many ways, and I know our members feel the same way.”
Amazingly, one of the founder members, Dorothy Grime is still a member today, demonstrating the quality of this local organisation.
