Police seeking man's next of kin as death is confirmed as not suspicious

Police are no longer treating the death of a man in a flat in Newton Heath on Sunday as suspicious.

Officers were called at 12.15pm on Sunday by colleagues from the North West Ambulance Service to a report of concern for the welfare of a man at an address on Graver Lane.

Sadly, the man - believed to be aged in his 40s - died a short time later, and formal identification has not yet taken place.

A post-mortem on Monday afternoon (October 31) confirmed that there aren’t believed to be any suspicious circumstances surrounding the man’s death.

A man who was arrested at the scene was questioned by detectives and has since been released with no further action to be taken against him.

Investigators from GMP's Central Park CID are continuing to help establish the circumstances around the man’s death as part of a file that is currently being prepared for the coroner.

They are working to identify and inform his next of kin so they can ensure they receive the necessary support.

Detective Inspector Rob Kennedy, of GMP's Central Park CID, said: “We’ve been keeping an open mind and following all available lines of enquiry ever since the man’s tragic passing on Sunday afternoon, which we are no longer treating as suspicious given the findings of the pathologist.

“Our priority is to inform the man’s family who don’t live in the UK, and every effort is being made to contact them so that they can be given the necessary support and space to grieve their loss.

“We’re doing all the work we can to prepare a file for the coroner to hopefully provide some answers as to how this sad event has occurred, and we still are welcoming any information via LiveChat or by calling 101 quoting incident 1654 of 30/10/2022 to help us with this work.”
