Chadderton residents urged to have their say on development, transport, environment and more

Date published: 27 October 2022

Chadderton residents are being invited to get involved and have their say on future developments in their area by becoming a member of the New Chadderton Partnership, which has been introduced in order to create a Neighbourhood Forum and Plan.

The New Chadderton Partnership (NCP) has the express purpose of undertaking the development of a Neighbourhood Plan for the whole of Chadderton.

This follows an application by the NCP to obtain permission to establish a Neighbourhood Forum and Plan with a defined area for consultation that was approved by Oldham Council on February 28, 2022.

The NCP are keen to encourage residents to become members of the Neighbourhood Forum and to take part in the various consultation events and activities that will be arranged across the three - North, Central and South Chadderton - wards over the coming months.

These forums will lead to the formation of a Neighbourhood Plan.

In compliance with regulations set out by the Government and Oldham Council, the setting up of the NCP provides a free and open environment for consultation and the exchange of ideas that will enable residents to have the opportunity to discuss and influence future planning proposals and developments including ideas and suggestions for:

· Improving the environment

· Reviewing arrangements for local transport

· Promoting walking and cycling

· Developing much needed housing projects

· Looking for opportunities to promote employment

· Placing some emphasis on the green agenda

· To consider other themes

The NCP stated that it is important to remember, however, that the Neighbourhood Plan must comply with the Oldham Local Plan which is currently being reviewed and is likely to be approved towards the end of 2023.

The NCP Chadderton Neighbourhood Plan cannot be considered for approval until the Local Plan has been approved.

During the intervening period, it will be possible to collect ideas, suggestions, prepare draft proposals, seek professional advice and work towards the completion of a draft Neighbourhood Plan which will eventually be subject to a local referendum and to an evaluation by a planning inspector.

All residents, plus those who are employed in Chadderton, are invited to join the NCP and have their say on in order to take this important project forward.

More information on how to become a member is available on the NCP website: www:newchaddertonpartnership.org

Alternatively applications are invited for membership of the NCP via email to: newchaddertonpartnership@gmail.com or by post to The New Chadderton Partnership, Chadderton Wellbeing Centre, Burnley Street, Chadderton Oldham, OL9 0JW.
