Saddleworth WI’s resolute Walking Group saw Oldham in a different light on a 10k circuit of the town as they helped raise much-needed funds for Maggie’s Oldham.
In total, more than 100 walkers took up the challenge and travelled the Culture Crawl, and the SWI group captured memorable pictures of the event.
The eight-strong Saddleworth group began their trek from the Oldham Event Centre, stopping at Shree Swaminarayan Mandir Oldham, Werneth Grange Convent, Oldham Parish Church and Cafe East and Maggie’s Oldham.
Christine Burbidge, SWI spokesperson, said: “We had a tremendous welcome at each stop, with refreshments and entertainment which kept our spirits up for the long walk ahead.
“The beeps and cheers of support from passing cars helped us along the way and really motivated us to carry on.
"And we were deeply touched when two police vehicles flashed their blue lights, with loud cheers from the officers.
“We arrived back at Oldham Event Centre at 11.15pm to a fantastic welcome from the event organisers, who clapped and whooped when we returned to base.”
She added: “Thank you very much to all the organisers, helpers, everyone that provided entertainment and refreshment and, of course, a big thank you to all the sponsors, who made this night a success.
“The funds raised by Saddleworth WI came to more than £1,000.
"The other good news is that it didn't rain.”
