Colleagues from Co-op Funeralcare in Oldham will be participating in this year’s Shine Night Walk for Cancer Research in Manchester.

The charitable event, which is set to take place on October 15, will see several colleagues at the Oldham funeral home completing a 10k sponsored walk around the city.

The walk, which is scheduled to start at 7pm at Manchester Castlefield Bowl, is expected to take between one and a half to three hours, with colleagues at the Co-op Funeralcare in Oldham hoping to use the opportunity and raise as much money as possible for Cancer Research UK.

Those wishing to donate can do so by heading over to the team’s Cancer Research Fundraiser page.

Alternatively, cash donations are also welcome and can be made at the Oldham funeral home, where a physical donation box will be available.

Rebecca Shipley, funeral director at the Co-op Funeralcare in Oldham, said: “Being out in the community is a very important part of our work here at the Co-op Funeralcare.

"After a few years of restrictions due to Covid-19, we are all ready and eager to get back into the full swing of things with our community work, raising money for the causes we believe in.

"As a team, we always want to do everything in our power to help those around us who may need a bit of additional support, so fundraising for charities and local grassroots causes alike is at the essence of everything we do."

Martin Roche, funeral arranger at Co-op Funeralcare Oldham, said: “Stride by stride we will soak up the city’s lights and get closer to beating cancer, thanks to the community’s generous donations.

"We know times are tough for everyone, but every little helps - however much you can donate, it will help change someone else’s life!”
