There were huge plumes of smoke coming from the Higginshaw Lane fire yesterday
Our pictures show the dramatic scene as a huge blaze broke out at a scrapyard in Oldham yesterday morning (Saturday).
Plumes of smoke could be seen from areas right across Oldham, but firefighters soon had the worrying situation under control.
A spokesperson for Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service said: “Just before 11am this morning (Saturday 17 September) firefighters were called to reports of a fire at a scrapyard on Higginshaw Lane in Oldham.
“Firefighters from Oldham, Chadderton, Bury and Hollins fire stations arrived at the scene and used hose jets to tackle the fire, quickly bringing it under control.
"Crews then dampened down the scene to make it safe.
“GMFRS have been at the scene for just under three hours.”
