An industrious village committee have been working hard to ensure the successful return of an iconic charity fundraiser this weekend.

And tomorrow (Saturday) the Wake Up Delph team will unveil their efforts when Party in the Park launches after a three-year gap.

The voluntary group were in the final planning stages of organising the much-loved event when Queen Elizabeth’s tragic passing was announced.

After some reflection, the team plan to use the event as an opportunity to celebrate Queen Elizabeth’s life and plan to show their respect during the day.

“It doesn’t feel the right thing to do to cancel a community event raising funds for charity, and from the Queen’s  approach to life and charity events, not something she would have wanted done,” said a committee spokesman.

Launching at 3 pm, the exciting event runs through until around 10.30pm.

Headlining the concert are Kaiser Monkey Killers, with support from Blondie, Elvis, the Bootleg Beatles, opera singers Víctor and Hayley, and Black Sabbath tribute band Black Garter, local singer Darren Phillips and support from Delph brass band.

Alongside a galaxy of sparkling musical talent there is a fun fair, a barbecue truck, pizza van, ice cream van and hot drinks.

Tickets are available from Uppermill and Delph post offices and at the event venue, Delph and Dobcross cricket club, on the day.

Speaking on behalf of the Delph committee, Anne Hargreaves and Frank Procter said: “Much has changed since the last time the event was held and limited numbers over the summer, but we would like to thank local suppliers, the Bank, Delph and Saddleworth Wine Vault for their massive support, along with many local volunteers.

“Hopefully the weather holds fair and we can have a great day - so please join us.”
