Greater Manchester Police's Neighbourhood Task Force in Rochdale have secured the imprisonment of a serial thief who had also targeted Oldham and other areas.

The 17-year-old, who cannot be named for legal reasons, has been sentenced to six years and eight months imprisonment for six counts of burglary, robbery, theft of a motor vehicle, theft from a motor vehicle, making off without payment and vehicle interference.

The teenager, who targeted Rochdale, Oldham and Bury, was caught after officers identified him using CCTV.

Following a three month man-hunt, during which time it is believed he travelled to Scotland for a period of time, the 17-year-old was arrested in May and subsequently charged.

Inspector Graham Cooke, of GMP Rochdale’s Neighbourhood Task Force, said: “This is a great result, not just for the victims, but for members of the public who could have been victimised by this teenager.

“The task force is committed to fighting this type of crime and this case is just one example of the work we are doing to fight and prevent it – to keep people and their belongings safe.”
