TfGM supports Pride 2022 with ‘Love Connects Everyone’ campaign

A new campaign - ‘Love Connects Everyone’ - will see a Metrolink tram wrapped in the rainbow colours of Pride

Manchester Pride is set to return to the city centre over the August Bank Holiday weekend with thousands of people expected to attend the festivities – and TfGM is showing its support by joining the parade and wrapping a tram to mark the event.

A new campaign - ‘Love Connects Everyone’ - will see a Metrolink tram wrapped in the rainbow colours of Pride and the windows of TfGM’s headquarters close to Piccadilly station will feature the rainbow colours of Pride.

People attending the parade should be aware that the city is going to be buzzing with events this weekend, including the third day of test match between England and South Africa at Emirates Old Trafford and Manchester City versus Crystal Palace from 3pm.

Not only will road closures be in place all weekend around the gay village, but there will also be rolling road closures along the parade route up until 6pm on Saturday – the most notable of which will be Deansgate.

As a result of both the road closures and matchday traffic, road users should expect their journeys – particularly along the Mancunian Way - to take at least 15 minutes longer than usual from midday on Saturday.

TfGM’s Head of Customer Experience, Sean Dyball, said: “Greater Manchester is a vibrant, modern city which welcomes everyone - and TfGM is proud to be supporting Pride this year. 

“We’ve chosen to show our support for this iconic event by wrapping a tram in rainbow colours and we will also have TfGM staff taking part in the parade, demonstrating their support and adding a little fun and colour of their own – so keep your eyes peeled if you are attending.

“So please come along, have a good time and support the event – but allow yourself an extra 15-20 minutes for your journey when travelling by car.

"Given services are likely to be busy, take extra care while you are travelling and look out for your friends and other people around you.

“We are constantly updating the customer information available on our website and across our social media channels to save people time and avoid disruption – so please check before you travel.” 

If you're travelling by tram, you are encouraged to use contactless payments for a fast and efficient way to pay.

Just remember to touch-in and touch-out with the same device on the smart readers at the start and end of each journey, and Metrolink will work out the best fare for you.
