MP McMahon: bus franchising must deliver for the people of Oldham

Oldham West and Royton MP Jim McMahon
Oldham West and Royton MP, and former Shadow Transport Secretary, Jim McMahon, has welcomed a ruling by the Court of Appeal allowing bus franchising in Greater Manchester to continue at pace.
Speaking after yesterday’s (Monday) decision, Mr McMahon said: “This ruling is another important milestone in the journey towards bus franchising in Greater Manchester.
“Now we need to ensure that the new bus franchising system delivers for the people of Oldham by introducing lower fares, simpler tickets and higher standards for bus passengers and that it truly makes the whole of Greater Manchester better connected, working in tandem with our tram network and rail system.
“This is our chance to rebuild our broken bus system after the failures of the last 40 years of deregulation.”
