Oldham MP supports successful Tea for Trussell event which raises £650

MP Debbie Abrahams was one of over 100 people supporting the Tea for Trussell event organised by the Saddleworth and Lees Labour Party.

The event, held at the Satellite Centre in Greenfield, raised £650 for the Trussell Trust.

As well as organising foodbanks across the country because people need to eat, the Trussell Trust campaigns to end reliance on foodbanks as no-one should have to rely on charity to get by.

Oldham East and Saddleworth MP Ms Abrahams (pictured below at the event) said: "It was absolutely magnificent to see so many people attending and to help raise this money for the Trussell Trust.

"I know the Foodbank is under real pressure at the moment and needs every donation it can get.

"If you can, please do pop a tin of potatoes, meat or fish into the collection point when you are doing a supermarket shop."

People ate cake, bought books and plants and had a good time. Ms Abrahams drew the raffle.

The event was supported by the Satellite Centre and donations from The Frostery and Defiance Distillery.

People also donated 10 crates of food, which have been safely delivered to Oldham’s foodbank.

Labour Councillor for Saddleworth North, George Hulme, added: "Oldham foodbank is busier than ever and delivering to about 40 families every weekday.

"The cost of living crisis is hitting many Oldham and Saddleworth residents hard.

"Please do help with food or cash donations if you can."
