Join the Labour Party's Tea for Trussell event this weekend

Date published: 05 July 2022

Some of the best conversations happen over a brew - which is why the Saddleworth and Lees Labour Party is holding its very own Tea for Trussell, supporting the Trussell Trust and their network of food banks.

A cup of tea is at the heart of their food bank network.

The warm welcome of a cuppa has the power to spark conversation and offer support to people coming into the food bank, while helping to uncover and address the underlying issues of why someone needs their support.

Councillor for Saddleworth North George Hulme said: ‘In a country as rich as ours it’s not right that any of us need to use a food bank, but it doesn’t have to be like this.

"That’s why I’m urging everyone to come along to this event, have a great time and help us raise money to help food banks provide emergency support to people in crisis, while campaigning for a future where no one needs to turn to charity to get by."

The Tea for Trussell event takes place on Saturday (July 9) between 12 and 2pm at the Satellite Centre, Wellington Road in Greenfield, OL3 7AL.

Hot and cold drinks, cake and biscuits will be available for a recommended donation of at least £2.50 a person.

There is also a book sale and plant sale to raise as much money as possible.

Officials will be taking food donations for the Oldham Foodbank.
