It's here! Two days of jubilee celebrations with Festival Oldham

Date published: 04 June 2022

Oldham has kicked off a two-day celebration in the town centre to mark the Queen's Platinum Jubilee.

As part of the celebrations over the entire bank holiday weekend, there are activities and performances as part of Festival Oldham - which itself is celebrating it's twenty-fifth anniversary.

This year, it's a celebration of all things royal, taking inspiration from Her Majesty The Queen's 70-year reign, along with Oldham's connections with royalty and the Commonwealth.

Most of the activities take place in Parliament Square and include dance, puppetry, acrobatics, comedy, and interative games.

Two giant royal beefeaters will also be 'on guard' in Oldham town centre.

There is entertainment and activities in High Street too, and Oldham Library will be hosting events throughout the weekend, including a jubilee art trail of royal animals and creatures by Caroline Daly

Tomorrow, at the Old Town Hall, don't miss the jubilee bandstand, where you can hear a spectacular variety of music from local bands and artists to round off the of Jubilee celebrations.

Oldham Band Lees will kick things off with a beautiful bit of brass, before  music from John Howarth of The Oldham Tinkers, Sens Sagna and the Kajamor Family and eight-piece rowdy ska band Galivantes.

There will also be performances from Hip-Hop, Soul, Dub and Electro-themed Kaptivators and three-part line-up band Threetles who will close the day.

Staff at Spindles Town Square Shopping Centre are ready to celebrate

All the events are free.
