Green light for 365 new homes in Fitton Hill

Date published: 07 April 2022

Plans to build 365 new homes in Fitton Hill have been confirmed by developer Countryside.

Planning permission was granted today by Oldham Council to build housing on two plots of land covering twenty-two acres.

The first site was the site of the former Fitton Hill Secondary Modern School, and Marland Fold School – most recently used as offices – which have both been knocked down.

The second site is an area of land around Hill Farm Close that previously was occupied by houses and the former Fitton Hill County Infant School, all of which have now been demolished.

The land is owned by Oldham Council and ForHousing.

On the currently vacant land, Countryside will be building a mix of house types, including apartments, mews, semi-detached and detached homes, ranging from 1 – 4 bedrooms in size.

Joe Turner, Managing Director, Manchester and Cheshire East, Countryside said: "This development will make a significant contribution to Oldham’s available housing supply, with Countryside’s partnership model providing a high quality mixed tenure offer.

"Countryside prides itself on taking underused land and converting it into sustainable communities where people love to live. Fitton Hill will epitomise this approach, as we convert vacant land into a housing development with a complete range of properties that will cater for everybody’s needs.”
