A new one-stop-shop that helps to get unemployed people into work, has officially opened its doors.
People looking for work can use 'Working Wardrobe' to get interview outfits, personal styling, and support to help them feel prepared and confident.
The shop is run by Oldham Council, via the Get Oldham Working programme – a service which helps people find work and training opportunities.
It's based at Shop 11, Tommyfield Market, Albion Street in Oldham Town Centre and open Monday to Friday by appointment.
Cllr Arooj Shah, Leader of Oldham Council, officially opened the shop yesterday, together with Cllr Shoab Akhtar and colleagues from Get Oldham Working as well as other partners involved with the project.
She said: "We're so happy to have opened Working Wardrobe, which will help give Oldham's jobseekers confidence - something that cannot be underestimated.
"Get Oldham Working does a great job helping to get people in work and training and we have helped thousands of people since it was set up almost 10 years ago. They are also a vital link between the community and Oldham businesses, helping recruit Oldham people into Oldham-based jobs.
"These relationships last – and the furniture and fittings you see in store was donated by JYSK, who recruited their team via Get Oldham Working when their store opened. This partnership working is so important.
"We want to give our residents the best possible chance to get on in life, and Working Wardrobe is absolutely key to that - helping people find fulfilling employment opportunities right here in the borough."
Clients are referred to Working Wardrobe via Get Oldham Working for an appointment. At the appointment, they'll receive a full outfit of their choice for their interview, and one-to-one support to help prepare and feel confident.
Once securing a job, clients can also receive additional work clothes to get ready for the new role. Appointments can be booked online here.
Meanwhile, businesses can also offer their support by donating clothing, shoes, and new (unopened) cosmetics and toiletries). To offer your support, email the Get Oldham Working team on workingwardrobe@oldham.gov.uk
