Road improvement scheme in Oldham, gets a £12m investment.

Oldham Council is set to improve more roads and streets as part of a £12m highways investment programme.

Three years ago the Council started a long term programme of works to resurface and repair carriageways across the borough.

By the end of this this financial year, they will have carried out programmed works on more than 170 roads.

Teams continued to work throughout the Pandemic and now, they'll be able to improve conditions for drivers and pedestrians on even more roads.

Oldham Council have been able to fund all this extra work thanks to savings achieved through teams working smarter and more efficiently.

More money has also been saved by getting the best value for money deals from contractors and suppliers.

After assessing the condition of several roads to see which are the most of need of repair the extra money will now be used to improve a further 18 roads across Oldham. Teams are looking to carry out the work before the end of March.

Councillor Amanda Chadderton, Deputy Leader of Oldham Council and Cabinet Member for Neighbourhoods, said: “Improving roads is important to the council because we know residents feel strongly about them.

“We want to get the basics right and ensure that our roads are safe and are in a good condition for pedestrians and drivers to use.

“That’s why we continued with our £12m highways investment programme over the last two years, despite all the challenges that Coronavirus has brought.

“Thanks to better and more efficient working practices our residents will benefit from better roads.”
