A fund raising page set up to give a "special send off" to a young girl who died after being hit by a car in Sholver has raised thousands of pounds.

The page has been organised by Shane Yerrell, the founder of the Through The Fight Foundation, which supports victims of violent crime and their families.

Lily Rose Morris, 10, was hit by a car on Coleridge Road in Sholver on Saturday and died in hospital shortly afterwards.

Her friend, who was also struck by the car, remains in hospital with head and ankle injuries.

The fundraising page, which has been set up with the permission of Lily's family has raised almost £5,000 in just two days.

Lily, who attended Hodge Clough Primary School, has been described as a "happy bubbly little girl who loved TikTok and had 100s of friends".

Meanwhile, candles have been lit in memory of Lily in homes across Oldham.

Posting on Facebook, Michelle Ramsey posted a picture of her candle with the note "RIP little Lily, sending prayers to all her family and friends".

James Cook posted an image of a candle he'd lit and placed in his window, saying "We wanted to show our support to Mel Hudson and all of the family and friends affected by this devastating tragedy. It’s a small gesture, and we will be contributing to the fund. My heart goes out to you all and your Angel. Godspeed little Lady."

Jo Merrick also shared a picture of her candle, posting "RIP sweet angel xx"

A picture of a lit candle was posted by Sophie Birch who said she had been "thinking about Lily all night and day"

Others had lit candles in church in memory of Lily.  Charlotte Jones shared a picture of a candle she had placed at St Thomas in Moorside.

A 42-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving and driving under the influence. He remains in custody for questioning.

Police are appealing for witnesses to the collision.
