Boris Johnson announced the restrictions on Wednesday evening
Prime Minister Boris Johnson has announced a re-introduction of some restrictions in order to try and slow the spread of the Omicron variant of Covid 19.
Here is the latest Government advice:
⚫ There will be a reintroduction of the 'work from home' order. If you are able to work from home, you should do so. FROM MONDAY 13 DECEMBER
⚫ Mandatory face covering in most public indoor venues. This includes theatres and cinemas. There will be exemptions if this is not practical "such as when eating, drinking, exercising or singing" FROM FRIDAY 10 DECEMBER
⚫ The NHS Covid pass (vaccine passport), will be made mandatory for nightclubs and venues with large crowds. People must use the pass to show either proof of two vaccine doses or a negative lateral flow test result. FROM THURSDAY 15 DECEMBER
⚫ The introduction of daily tests for people who are contacts of Omicron cases.
The Prime Minister says the restrictions are "proportionate and responsible"
MPs are expected to debate and vote on the new COVID measures on Tuesday, with a review of the new restrictions after three weeks.
