Dr Kershaw's makes emergency appeal for fuel

Date published: 30 September 2021

The CEO of Dr Kershaw's Hospice has thanked generous Oldhamers for their help during the fuel shortage.

The Hospice, on Turf Lane, Royton appealled for help for unleaded fuel to ensure that their 'Hospice at Home' and 'Caring Hands' services could continue.

A shortage of HGV drivers has lead to a disrupted supply to petrol forecourts, and panic-buying at the pumps has lead to queues for fuel.

A difficulty in obtaining fuel had threatened two key services provided by the hospice.

'Hospice at Home' provides patients and families with additional care to ensure they can remain in their own home, and avoid unnecessary admission to hospital.

'Caring Hands' is designed to work alongside current services provided by the Community Nursing Team, the Specialist Palliative Care Nurses and Dr Kershaw's Hospice at Home Team. The aim is to support the local community by ensuring that our clients and their loved ones receive excellent care in their own homes.

Dr Kershaw's CEO, Joanne Sloan said the response from the community for fuel was hugely appreciated: "Thanks to the amazing generous response of the community of Oldham we've been able to continue with business as usual. Thank you very much from all at Dr Kershaws."
