Countryside to build 160 more homes in Chadderton

The mixed-tenure development, which will be named Radclyffe Green, follows the Radclyffe Gardens development which is situated nearby on Lydia Becker Way in Chadderton
Housing developer Countryside is set to begin construction of a collection of two, three and four bedroom homes just two miles from Oldham town centre.
The development in Chadderton, which will be named Radclyffe Green, follows the successful Radclyffe Gardens project which is situated nearby on Lydia Becker Way.
Radclyffe Green will comprise detached, semi-detached and mews house types of which 109 are for private sale.
A partnership with Great Places Housing Group will see 31 available for shared ownership and 20 for affordable rent.
As part of its Section 106 agreement with Oldham Council, Countryside has pledged to invest £540k towards education provision in the town.
Delivery of the Radclyffe Green scheme is also unlocking phase one of the new Linear Park, with £150k of works set to take place.
The 19-acre Linear Park stretches across the Broadway Green development and will create open space for residents to explore and enjoy.
When complete it will boast footpaths, picnic areas and two natural soft play areas incorporating balancing bridges, tree trunks and stepping logs.
Countryside’s presence in Broadway Green has proved popular with buyers owing to the area’s connectivity to Oldham, Manchester, Liverpool and Leeds and close proximity to five parks, three of which hold Green Flag status.
Radclyffe Green is part of a wider programme of investment by Countryside in the Oldham borough, which also includes Heyside Grove, a development of two, three and four-bedroom homes in Royton.
Joe Turner, Interim Regional Managing Director, Manchester and Cheshire East, Countryside, said: “We’re pleased to be announcing the next chapter in our strategic presence in Chadderton and fulfilling the appetite for high quality, affordable homes in this well-connected location.
"Our partnership with Great Places will enable us to provide a mixed-tenure development that supports the needs of local people and underpins our commitment to create vibrant and diverse neighbourhoods.”
Cllr Hannah Roberts, Cabinet Member for Housing at Oldham Council, said: “Oldham needs new homes and I am particularly pleased that Radclyffe Green includes homes for affordable rent as well as shared ownership.
"Oldham Council is committed to developing balanced communities and the overall Broadway Green masterplan is creating much needed new homes, jobs and business opportunities.”
Helen Spencer, Director of Development at Great Places, said: “We’re delighted to be working with Countryside on the second phase of Radclyffe Green as part of our ongoing partnership.
"This will provide an additional 51 much-needed affordable homes in the local area and is a great example of what can be achieved through the power of partnerships.
"Affordable housing continues to be a key priority for all of the areas we operate in and Great Places remains committed to creating great homes across a wide variety of communities.”
