‘Painting the Town’ - a unique open air art trail takes shape in Mossley

The Mossley Town Team, working in partnership with celebrated local artist, Chris Cyprus, have launched a one-of-a-kind ‘open air’ art trail called “Painting the Town”.

Two images taken from Chris’ original paintings have been enlarged and installed on the Pennine Medical Centre building on Manchester Road.

‘Old Milltown’ and ‘Oddbins’ are the first two signs on the trail, with three more installations in the first planning stages, and a further one being created by talented art students at Mossley Hollins High School.

The aim is to develop a permanent outdoor art exhibition in the town.

Chris said: “I am thrilled that this project has launched.

"I have long held the ambition to bring the project to fruition, to make art visible for all and to create enjoyment and involvement.

"It is a private enterprise project which we hope will gather support through sponsorship, as local businesses see the benefit of advertising themselves as part of the art installations.”

Dr Duper, GP at Pennine Medical Practice, said that he was very proud that the centre had been chosen for the first installations and that he thought the art trail would be a great asset and attraction for the town and that it would create a feeling of optimism.

Paul Dowthwaite, Chair of the Town Team, added: “We are always looking for ways of attracting more visitors to our town centres and generating local pride in our lovely town of Mossley.

"Working with Chris on this project has been a joy.

"We are lucky to have such a talented and community-minded local artist.

"Chris’s paintings bring out the beauty of Mossley and are ideally suited for display in the town.

"As the project develops, we hope that other artists will become involved.”
