MP McMahon salutes Oldham's dedicated volunteers

Date published: 04 June 2021

Marking Volunteers Week, the first of four planned weeks to mark June as the Month of Community, Oldham West and Royton MP Jim McMahon has offered his praise and thanks to the work that volunteers have done to keep our town afloat during the pandemic.

Mr McMahon particularly highlighted the vaccine rollout.

The last year has seen Oldhamers from all walks of life give up their time to help others in their community, from registering as an NHS Volunteer in the early days of the pandemic, becoming one of the thousands who signed up to help Action Together co-ordinate Oldham’s efforts, while much more recently many Oldhamers have volunteered to help the NHS rollout the vaccination programme, meaning that almost 130,000 people in Oldham have now had their first dose.

Mr McMahon said: “I'm so tremendously proud of all the volunteers in Chadderton, Oldham and Royton who've given up their time over the last year to volunteer for many of the fantastic local causes we have right on our doorstep.

“The dedication and empathy that I've seen on display working with a number of local groups over the last year has been fantastic.

"I'm very happy to use this Volunteers Week to say a massive thank you to everyone who's volunteered in our town during the pandemic.

"You've truly shown the best of us.”
