Police appeal after three men are stabbed in Piccadilly Gardens brawl

Police are appealing for information after three men were stabbed during a large scale altercation in Piccadilly Gardens last night (Thursday).

At around 10.50pm last night, police were made aware by the council of a disturbance at Piccadilly Gardens in Manchester city centre.

Enquiries have established that a group of people were fighting with knives.

Officers attended and identified three men - aged between 23 and 31 - who had injuries consistent with stab wounds.

Two of the men were taken to hospital with serious injuries and the third man was taken to hospital with minor injuries.

All three men remain there for treatment.

This is believed to be an isolated incident with no wider risk to the public.

Two males - aged 17 and 18 - have been arrested on suspicion of assault.

They remain in custody for questioning.

Chief Inspector David Henthorne, Force Critical Incident Manager for GMP, said: "Three men are in hospital as a result of this shocking incident in which a group of men, who were wielding knives engaged in an altercation.

"Although we have two men in custody, our investigation remains very much still ongoing to establish the full circumstances of this altercation.

"At this stage we are not looking for anyone else in connection with this incident.

"This took place in a busy location and I would like to reassure the public that this is believed to be an isolated incident with no further risk to the wider community.

"If anyone witnessed this fight, or has any information that could help officers to complete their enquiries, please get in touch with police as soon as possible."
