The van was handed over to Mike Eslick of the Cornish team by Oldham Mountain Team Leader Rob Tortoiseshell
Oldham mountain rescue team’s most familiar rescue vehicle is on the move... to another mountain rescue team.
This week the hero volunteer team from Oldham said goodbye to their trusty control vehicle, known as Oldham Mobile Three.
The vehicle was purchased 12 years ago from Woodhead Mountain Rescue Team and was the team's first dedicated control vehicle.
Previously the team ran incidents from a trailer towed behind an off-road vehicle.
The van arrived in time, and proved very useful, during one of our worst winters, 2009 to 2010.
Since then it has been a regular sight around the area and has attended more than 600 incidents acting as a communications hub.
It’s radio set-up allows incident commanders to plan using the onboard computer software while remaining protected from the elements.
But the van has not finished helping those in distress.
The kind-hearted team have gifted it to East Cornwall Search and Rescue team who were looking for a vehicle to run incidents.
Said OMRT’s deputy leader, David Wyatt: “We wish the van continued success with its third rescue team in sunny Cornwall.”
