A good cheer wish from New Zealand, for 'special place' Oldham.

Date published: 21 April 2021

A man from New Zealand, who recently visited Oldham and whose family hailed from the area, is wishing people of the town 'good cheer'.

Grant Limpus was struck by the humble surroundings on a recent visit and describes the town as a 'special place'.

He's trying to send a small uplifting message from the other side of the world.

Grant and his wife, Pam, visited her aunt in Lees before the pandemic struck.

He told us, "With the trials that the covid virus has dealt England, we have been pleased to see improvements being made at last.

"Oldham is a special place to me because my grandparents came from there, to New Zealand.

"Then in 1959 my wife came from there and subsequently met and married me."

Mr Limpus sent The Oldham Evening Chronicle a picture which shows his wife Pam with her aunt, at the Lees bus stop. He says that the classic background in the frame, would be relished by a New Zealand poet.

He went on to say: "Beauty is in the eye of the beholder. What a special place Oldham is.

"Be of good cheer from the other side of the world."
