Steve Hill receives his Civic Appreciation award from the Mayor of Oldham, Councillor Ginny Alexander
Saturday (May 1) proved to be another red letter day for intrepid schoolteacher, explorer and super fund-raiser Steve Hill.
Steve, who has been the Deputy Headteacher at the St Joseph’s primary school in Shaw for 17 years and runs his own ‘Team Hill Charitable Trust’, received a hugely prestigious Civic Appreciation Award from the town of Oldham, presented by Mayor Councillor Ginny Alexander.
The award is in recognition of his significant contribution, dedication and charitable work for the local community and Borough of Oldham.
Steve's dedicated group of Team Hill volunteers - who do great work in Oldham for numerous needy people and groups - have excelled themselves this past 12 months under the guidance of the local fund-raising hero.
Steve said: “Wow - I’m totally overwhelmed to be considered worthy of receiving this Civic Appreciation Award - it’s such a huge honour to be recognised in this way by my home town of Oldham.
“This award is so very special and is received on behalf of all the wonderful people who continually support and encourage me in everything I do - including the amazing children I have the privilege of teaching!
“A special mention also has to go to all the amazing Team Hill Charitable Trust supporters who are helping us to make a real difference both locally, and also in Uganda.
“Thank you to you all.”
Cllr Alexander said: "Wow - what a inspiration you are to everyone Steve!
"I would like to join with everyone across the Borough of Oldham to say a massive thank you for everything you do.
"You should be very proud of yourself.
"We certainly are."
