Car owners are once again being urged to be vigilant when defrosting their vehicles outside their homes on cold winter mornings.
Opportunist thieves are out there, and a car with a running engine - no matter what time of the morning - will always be an easy target.
A post on the Greater Manchester PoliceSaddleworth and Lees Facebook page read: "As we are now coming into colder weather that means often de-frosting vehicles at the start of your day.
"We ask that you remain vigilant and also remain with your vehicle while this process takes place.
"We record crimes each year where victims are away from there vehicle while it is de-frosted and opportunistic thieves who are looking for this exact scenario take their opportunity and steal the unattended vehicle.
"The consequences of this are far reaching and start with you negating your vehicle insurance with zero payout in the outcome that it is damaged or written off.
"So please stay with your vehicle if you have to de-frost it.
"Keep your keys with you at all times and do not leave them in the ignition while the engine warms your car."
Meanwhile, morning patrols are starting again around Saddleworth School after receiving reports of obstructive parking around the grounds.
A GMP Facebook post warned: "We hope to visit each school in the area whilst on early shifts over the coming weeks."
