Royton Townswomen's Guild doing all they can to help new-born babies

The Guild has presented the hospital with blankets, hats and cardigans for new-borns as well as wash bags with toiletries, which are often needed for an unexpected stay in hospital
Members of Royton Townswomen’s Guild have responded to a request from the Royal Oldham Hospital to provide cannula covers for new-born babies.
The knitted sleeves are used to prevent babies needing cannulas from dislodging or scratching them, and when the Guild learnt of this request out came the knitting needles.
However, the Guild members didn’t just stop at making cannula covers.
Instead they continued to demonstrate their knitting skills and have also presented the hospital with blankets, hats and cardigans for new borns as well as wash bags with toiletries, which are often needed for an unexpected stay in hospital.
Barbara Micklethwaite, Chairman of Royton Townswomen’s Guild, said: “Unfortunately, due to Covid-19 the activities of our Guild came to an abrupt halt in March.
"But we have all continued to keep in touch and are thrilled to be helping out the NHS.
“Charity and good will are at the heart of our organisation and we’re always ready and willing to help with a good cause, and in this instance it has also given us a purpose during this difficult time.”
Once circumstances change, the Royton Townswomen’s Guild will be back in business with their monthly meetings that have been taking place for the last 58 years and have provided members with lots of fun and friendship along the way.
