Oldhamers are being invited to share their nostalgia and memories in a special commemoration of VJ Day, the end of World War 2.
A personal message from Cllr Cath Ball says Oldham Council hoped to hold some events in the market hall to mark the day, but plans have now been changed.
There is going to be an exhibition outside the market hall, in gazebos, on August 14-15.
Cllr Ball said: "Our hope is that we can populate the exhibits with stories from people about theirs, and their families', memories of WW2.
“Could you please help by passing this out to anyone who you think may be interested?,” she asks.
“Many of our elderly residents have been in lockdown for months, and we need to tell them that they are important and their memories are important.
"WW2 was a massive part of their lives.
“What we don’t receive in time, we will put in a memory book and put online.
“We want stories from ALL our communities, from the Asian sub-continent, Africa, Europe.
"A photograph and a couple of sides of A4 would be great.“
