Oldham's mayor, Cllr Ginny Alexander
Oldham’s Mayor Ginny Alexander has launched Armed Forces Week today (Monday) with a stirring message.
Cllr Alexander, supported by her consort husband Adrian, have been enthusiastic supporters of past and present members of the forces.
She said: “Usually there would be various events held every day this week to showcase our wonderful Armed Forces.
“Unfortunately, due to the Covid-19 pandemic restrictions are in place, stopping us from coming together.
“Through my mayoral year, I have regularly been in contact with our own Oldham veterans.
"They truly are remarkable people and such a great inspiration to us all.
“I would also like to say what a credit our wonderful cadets are to our great town of Oldham.
"It truly is heart-warming to see a new generation joining our armed forces.
“They have shown me their great strength, determination and willpower to help anyone in distress especially through this pandemic period.”
She added: “It is important for anyone young or old to know support is there for them if you need any help.”
