Dr Kershaws' Royton shop re-opens

Date published: 17 June 2020

Dr Kershaw’s has re-opened its Royton town centre charity shop following the successful re-opening of its Shaw store earlier this week.

The Hospice, which has seen a significant drop in funding since the cancellation of a number of fundraising events and the closing of its shops within the borough, is planning to re-open the rest of its portfolio of shops in the coming weeks, if demand persists.

Throughout the pandemic the Hospice’s retail managers have been working tirelessly to get all the shops ready for re-opening with enhanced health and safety measures and strict social distancing guidelines to ensure the safest shopping environment.

All employees have been trained appropriately and will be provided with full PPE and the Hospice is confident that the safety measures that have been put into place adhere to guidance provided by the Government and Public Health England.

Each shop will have a one-way system throughout the store with supporters being asked to adhere to social distancing guidelines as set out by the government and are asked, where possible, to pay by contactless.

There will be a reduced number of customers allowed in the store, with all customers being asked to follow social distancing guidelines.

Floor markers have been introduced throughout the shops to help members of the public keep their distance and all team members have been trained to support social distancing.

The shops have also temporarily closed fitting rooms.

The shops will also be introducing cleaning throughout the day which will include regularly disinfecting high touch points such as door handles and hand rails and have designated sanitation stations at the entrance for members of the public to sanitise their hands prior to browsing.

Following the success of the Hospice’s donation appeal earlier this month, the Hospice has temporarily stopped taking donations - this is being reviewed by the retail team weekly and any updates will be posted on the Hospice’s social media and website.

All donations which were received during the Hospice’s donation appeal have all been cleaned and ‘quarantined’ for the suggested 72 hours before being made available in store for purchase, in order to prevent any contamination.

More information on when the rest of the charites shops will be opening will be made available on the Hospice’s website: www.drkershawshospice.org.uk, and on the Hospice’s social media platforms.
