The damage at the Shalimar Restaurant
The owner of a popular restaurant which had all its windows damaged by an overnight raider says he has been 'overwhelmed' by the community’s kindness.
Rahat Hannan, who owns the Shalimar restaurant on High Street, Uppermill, has received hundreds of messages and support on social media from people upset by the attack.
He said: “We have been overwhelmed by all the messages of support and generosity from all our wonderful customers.
"As an established business in Uppermill for over 22 years, this sense of support is just a reaffirmation of the strong community spirit we have here.
“A sincere thank you to all our customers for your support so far.
"Just as you have been here for our testing time, we assure you that we will continue being with you all and continue providing a great service.
“As for those who were responsible for this vandalism, investigations are ongoing and they will be found out and be brought to justice.
"Once again, thank you and hope to see you all in our restaurant soon!”
Mr Hannan added: “After lockdown has finished and covid 19 becomes something of the past I will throw a massive party for the people.
"It’s the least I can do for you all.
“I am simply lost for words and deeply touched by everyone’s kindness and generosity.
"All of you have gone out of your way and really didn’t need to do this.”
Mr Hannan has offered a £500 reward “to anyone who has any valuable information that can directly link me to the person responsible,” he says.
Mr Hannan can be reached at 07938 782858.
