Bus company boss answers Blue Team breakfast call

The Operations Director at First Manchester in Oldham swapped timetables for cooking instructions last weekend as he served up breakfast to hungry paramedics from the North West Ambulance Service (NWAS).

Adrian Worsfold volunteered together with his husband Vince to help cater for a 30-strong crew from the Blue Team stationed at Macclesfield Ambulance Station, the closest to the couple’s home in Cheshire.

They answered the call to support frontline workers in the NHS as a way to show gratitude for the role ambulance crews are performing during the coronavirus crisis.

“Clapping on a Thursday is great, but we decided we wanted to offer something extra,” said Adrian, who along with Vince has previously spent six years as a Community First Responder.

Adrian added: “Getting up at 4am to cook sausages wasn’t easy and we only had limited catering equipment but the paramedics loved it!

"They said it was great morale boost, which is what we hoped it would be.”

Vince is an ex-RAF chef so knew his way around the kitchen and catering for large numbers of people.

The success of the breakfast service has meant the pair have been asked to come back and prepare supper.

“We’re thinking a chilli or cottage pie but the menu hasn’t been decided yet,” said Adrian.
