Daniel's marathon effort for dementia charity

Date published: 01 May 2020

Eleven-year-old Daniel Mahon is determined to make his mark despite the current lockdown as he is running a marathon 26.2 miles in aid of the Lewy Body Dementia charity.

Daniel, a Thornham St James’ Primary School pupil from Royton, is currently ranked number two in the Oldham Junior Schools' Cross Country Championships.

Daniel's proud dad Noel said: "Daniel has already started his runs, and he aims to complete a total of 26.2 miles over the next 10 days or so.

"He decided to do this because his grandad is living with Lewy Body dementia."

Daniel’s grandad is Steve Woodland, of Carlton Way, Royton.

He is 68 years old and was diagnosed with Lewy Body Dementia and Parkinson’s Disease three years ago.

The Lewy Body Society was founded in 2006 to support research into Lewy Body dementia and to raise awareness of the disease.

It aims to educate the public, the medical professions and those in decision-making positions about the disease, which unfortunately is still not well known.

He has already smashed his initial target of £260.
