A dedicated pair of young fund-raisers have been presented with a special award after raising £1,200 in support of Captain Thomas Moore’s NHS fund.

GMP’s Saddleworth policing team made a surprise visit to the Greenfield home of Leo Dean and his sister, Ashleigh Dickerson.

The pair each received a certificate of recognition for their separate initiatives and a glowing accolade praising their “fantastic achievement”, describing them as “a credit to the Saddleworth community.”

Leo, aged six, was so inspired by the heroic military veterans' gargantuan efforts for three days he manned a roadside table at the corner of Dacre Road and Manchester Road selling off a selection of his own books and toys, raising £602 which he donated to the Captain's fund.

In a thank you note to Leo, Captain Tom praised him on his Just Giving page, saying: “phenomenal effort young man.”

Meanwhile, Leo's sister, Ashleigh, spurred on by her brothers efforts, spent hours hand painting stones and raised, with generous support, another £300 for the Captain's fund.

Local police, touched by Leo's efforts, presented him with a gift  of a game for all his hard work.

Said a police spokesman: “Leo is an inspiration to us all and a ray of sunshine during this tough time.”
