Two Saddleworth ward councillors have praised Oldham Council employees for their efforts during the coronavirus.

Conservative Councillors John Hudson OBE, and Dr Jamie Curley, retiring chair of Saddleworth council, stated: “In this strange and worrying situation we want to say how grateful we are to all Oldham Council employees for their efforts.

"We want to recognise the vital and urgent work they are doing across the Borough, to tackle the pandemic and working to protect us from Covid-19 and ensuring our most vulnerable residents are safe and cared for.

“These are key workers who are soldiering on while we stay safe at home.

"We would pay particular thanks to our refuse collection teams who continue to to collect our rubbish.

"However, it is disappointing to see so much rubbish being dumped across Saddleworth by selfish and uncaring individuals.

“Perhaps it is now in the local interest to look at re-opening our local collection centres with appropriate social distancing measures and suitable protection for our operatives.”
