Alexandra Park Junior School leads the way on Internet safety

Safer Internet pupils

Alexandra Park Junior School celebrated Safer Internet Day, with a serious of important lessons on keeping safe on the internet. 

This years theme was Free to Be Me, linked to having a peaceful, harmonious and safe time on the internet.

PSHE leader Samantha Nicholson-Hickling "Our children know how to be safe on the internet. Each year it is important we remind them of this, and build on their skills.

"This is important not just because it is expected by the new RSE framework, but it enables our children to be safe and active human beings in the wider world. I am so proud to see their hard word!"

"It can be vitally important to teach children, not to pose in their school uniform on pictures for social media. 

"There's an awful lot of information that can be disclosed, which can compromise pupil safety."

The children were taught by Alexandra Park School's computing expert Mrs Rashid.

She runs a competition each year, with the prize a trip to Oldham Hack Space, a local community STEAM workspace whereby children are able to further explore their love for computing.

Mrs Rashid said "I've had more entries than ever before. The children love going to the Hack Space, and word has spread in the three years we have done the competition what an excellent opportunity it is."
