Date published: 19 December 2019

Oldham-influenced author Chris Berry’s debut novel Tough Season, a crime thriller featuring rugby league in the fictitious world of struggling club Hopton Town  is outselling many much bigger names in bookshops and on Amazon this Christmas.

It has also now been nominated in the Crime Writers Association’s famed Dagger Awards.

Chris said, "Tough Season is a fantastic success story for myself and my publishers Great Northern Books.

"I’ve been conducting book signings in Leeds, Hull, Wigan, Wakefield and Warrington bookshops and in all of them the response has been amazing.

"People love crime thrillers and to have one that includes rugby league is a bit special for those who like the sport, but you don’t have to in order to enjoy the book as the reviewers have said.

"It has been nominated in the Fresh Blood Dagger award section for authors’ debut novels"

‘It’s great to be nominated. It would amazing if it goes any further than that and it appears on a longlist."

Tough Season has been at #1 in the rugby league books chart on Amazon on many occasions since its release in July.
